How TAC responds in a crisis
If you're in danger right now
- Call 911 if you or someone else is in immediate danger.
- Call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org, if you're thinking about suicide or hurting yourself, or you're worried about someone who is. It's free and open 24/7 in the US.
- Text HOME to 741741 to reach Crisis Text Line, any time.
- Call 1-800-799-7233 or text START to 88788 for the National Domestic Violence Hotline, or chat at thehotline.org, if someone is hurting, threatening or controlling you.
What TAC is
TAC is an AI guide for communication, relationships and personal growth. It is not a person, a therapist, a crisis service or emergency help. It's for adults 18 and over. AI chat products like TAC may not be suitable for minors.
What TAC does if you mention suicide, self-harm or being in danger
- It stops the usual coaching and answers you with care, in plain words.
- It shares the crisis resources above and encourages you to reach someone right away, including a person you trust.
- If someone may be hurting or threatening you, it puts your safety first and points you to help for that.
- It won't give information that could be used to hurt yourself or anyone else.
- It won't lecture, argue or pretend to be a counselor.
- It stays in the conversation with you if you want to keep talking, and keeps the resources in view.
What TAC can't do
- No one at TAC reads conversations as they happen, so TAC can't send someone to you.
- TAC can't call emergency services or contact anyone for you. It never sends messages on your behalf.
- TAC can be wrong. If you need help, use the resources above even if TAC hasn't suggested them.
How we keep this working
Every version of TAC is tested against crisis, self-harm and abuse situations before it's released to anyone, and a version that fails those tests isn't released. We review this page and these tests regularly, and when the law or the crisis services change.
